I mostly stuck to romances my first couple of years watching drama, because I found them the easiest to understand. Though I would add that I fear it would require a pretty advanced Japanese ability to get the full value out of it. It definitely fits your description of lighthearted comedy, and has incredibly realistic conversations on a wide variety of topics, so I think it's also very educational. It's a sort of mockumentary about two girls interviewing people about their various obsessions or fixations with random silly things. The reason I mention all that, is that I've been watching the currently airing "Sono Okodawari, Watashi ni mo Kure yo!!" (その「おこだわり」、私にもくれよ!!) and it immediately reminded me of Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo, except it's actually funny. I suppose it didn't help that I already knew all the jokes, but there was just something cringey about all the foreign actors I couldn't stomach. se trata sobre Haruko, una chica que por una equivocacin termina en una escuela de idioma. Pero esta ves se desarrolla en una escuela de idiomas, si como lo leen. I found the books both funny and educational, but honestly thought the drama was pretty awful. 'Nihonjin Shiranai Nihongo' o bien 'el Japnes que los Japoneses desconocen', es un drama escolar, algo parecido a los ya vistos antes como, gokusen, GTO, Profesor sakura, etc.
There have been four paperback volumes as of August, 2013. Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo was based on a series of comic-essay books, which I had actually read before the drama adaptation. The Japanese That The Japanese Dont Know (Japanese:, Hepburn: Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo) is a manga and television series about a Japanese teacher and her students written by Takayuki Tomita and Umino Nagiko.It discusses the background of Japanese words and speech.
